FC WIT Georgia are the newly crowned champions of Georgia after their 4-3 comeback victory at FC Sioni Bolnisi took them six points clear of titleholders FC Dinamo Tbilisi with just one match left in the Umaglesi Liga.

Draw sufficient
WIT knew they only had to better Dinamo's result against FC Mglebi Zugdidi to claim their second title and with the capital giants losing that game 1-0, a draw would have sufficed. Nestor Mumladze's team aimed to cross the line in style, however, and went ahead on 17 minutes when Giorgi Kvaginidze fired in a free-kick. Sioni threatened to spoil the party with goals from Mikhail Bobokhidze (24), Revaz Gotsiridze (41) and Georgi Khidesheli (50), but WIT fought back through Giga Bechvaia (54), Vakhtang Kvaratskelia (58) and Jaba Lipartia (70) to emerge victorious.

Suspended players
"I knew it would be a tough game," explained Mumladze, whose side will enter the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round next term. "We were missing three key players – Aleksandr Kvakhadze, Luka Razmadze and Irakli Klimiashvili – due to suspension. We had to alter the team. It was obvious in the first half that the guys were a little bit nervous, but after that we improved a lot. I'm glad for the team because three points brought us the title."
