Zestaponi drops out, only Dinamo left.
Only one of four Georgian football clubs are left in the European tournaments for the in 2009-2010 season. Dinamo won the right to play in the third qualifying round.
The Georgian Cup entered the UEFA European League during the second qualifying round and beat the Latvian Metalurg. The Georgians then lost 1:2 away and won 3:1 at home.
Dinamo will now face the Serbian Tsrvena Zvezda team on Aug. 6.
Zestaponi had a realistic chance to move to the next round of the qualifiers, but came up short in the end. The Imeretians topped the Swedish Helsingborgs IF club headed by former Barcelona forward Henrik Larsson, but lost in the final seconds of the match.
In the first half of the Imeretians’ painful loss, the score was 2:0 in Zestaponi’s favor. Jaba Dvali scored a goal in the 29 minute and Nikoloz Gelashvili scored another with three minutes on the clock. Zestaponi continued well in extra time, but luck turned its back on the club during a Helsingborgs counterattack. The Swedes scored and ended the match 2:2.
Rustavi’s Olymp lost in the first round to the Polish Legia, while Vit Georgia finished in a 0:0 draw with the Slovenian Maribor and then lost to the team away 1:3. |
