Olimpi to make it first time lucky.

FC "Zestafoni" - finalist of the Georgian Cup

FC Olimpi Rustavi are within touching distance of an improbable first Georgian title after holding second-placed FC Dinamo Tbilisi to a goalless draw.

Sudden success
Founded just before the start of the season with the merger of FC Tbilisi and FC Rustavi, Olimpi stand three points clear at the top of the Umaglesi Liga with just two games to play. Four points from their remaining league fixtures against FC Ameri Tbilisi and FC Torpedo Kutaisi, on Wednesday and Sunday respectively, would guarantee the crown and a place in the first qualifying round of next season's UEFA Champions League.

Exciting fixture
Revaz Dzodzuashvili's side might already have been celebrating glory had they managed to break the deadlock in their home fixture against Dinamo Tbilisi on 5 May. A big crowd gathered in Rustavi to watch former Georgia and Latvia coach Dzodzuashvili lead his side out against the traditional giants of local football, but an exciting game packed with chances ended goalless.

Dzodzuashvili content
"It was a golden match for us because the title would have been ours if we had won it," said Dzodzuashvili, whose side have picked up eleven points from their last five league games. "However, we are satisfied with the draw as well. I hope we can play as well in the last few games of the season as we have in our most recent matches so we can claim the title."

Scant consolation
Dušan Uhrin's Dinamo may feel they only have themselves to blame if they fail to overhaul Rustavi. They dropped points in a 2-2 draw against FC Zestaponi to keep the pressure off their rivals back on 13 April, conceding a last-minute equaliser from striker Beka Gotsiridze, before missing their chance to close the gap as they met Olimpi in Rustavi. The fact that Dinamo's Sandro Iashvili remains the league's top scorer with 16 goals will be scant consolation.

Coaching changes
A 1-1 draw between Ameri and Zestaponi on 27 April effectively removed both sides from the title race. However, they will have another chance to make amends as they meet in the Georgian Cup final on 26 May. The two sides met in the final last season, with Ameri coming out on top on penalties. Elsewhere, bottom sides FC Kakheti Telavi and FC Dila Gori are both sure to be relegated at the end of the season, while two clubs have changed coach in the last month. Former FC Chikhura Sachkhere player Vakhtang Turmanidze took over as coach following Khvicha Kasrashvili's dismissal while David Janashia has taken over from Iuri Kvernadze at Kutaisi, the club where he won three league titles as a player.
