FC Ameri Tbilisi have successfully defended the Georgian Cup thanks to a 1-0 final defeat of FC Zestaponi, who have now lost in the final for three years in a row.

Ameri overcame the same opponents in a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw in the 2006 showpiece to claim their first ever silverware. On this occasion, a 61st-minute goal from Dimitri Tatanashvili proved enough to end the challenge of Zestaponi, who lost 2-0 to FC Lokomotiv Tbilisi in the 2005 final prior to their two defeats against Ameri. The team from Tbilisi will now enter the UEFA Cup first qualifying round and will hope to at least match their achievement in the 2006/07 competition, when they reached the second qualifying round before a creditable 3-2 aggregate defeat against Hertha BSC Berlin.
