Duo seize control in Georgia

A gap has opened up at the top of the Georgian league after seven rounds with FC Ameri Tbilisi and FC Olimpi Rustavi five points clear of the chasing pack.

Winning run
The two sides are currently level on 19 points. Ameri's run of six straight wins in their opening games was ended as they drew 1-1 at reigning champions FC Sioni Bolnisi. It could have been worse for Ameri had David Sevastopulo not scored an equaliser nine minutes from time.

Olimpi strong
That slip allowed Olimpi, who merged with FC Tbilisi at the start of the season, to join Ameri on 19 points after winning 4-0 at home against FC WIT Georgia. Their record in the league has been impressive so far. They have scored 18 goals and are yet to concede in the league.

Chasing pack
WIT, FC Torpedo Kutaisi and FC Zestaponi are forming a chasing pack at the moment, with all three teams level on 14 points. Zestaponi have made moves to strengthen their squad in recent weeks bringing in two Brazilians, 26-year-old central defender Edson dos Santos and 22-year-old midfielder Zhilman.

Dinamo beaten
Having taken over from Kakha Kacharava after a sluggish start to the season, Czech coach Dusan Uhrin has tasted his first defeat since taking charge at FC Dinamo Tblisi. A 1-0 defeat at Zestaponi left Dinamo sixth in the table with 12 points from their seven games.

Merani comfortable
Further down the table, top division newcomers FC Merani Tbilisi are making a reasonable start, having won two games to date to reach the relative comfort of ninth position in the table. Things are less happy for FC Dila Gori and FC Kakheti Telavi, neither of whom have won a match all season.
