Zestafoni celebrate Georgian first.

FC Zestafoni won the first title in their history as they ended a run of two final defeats against FC Ameri Tbilisi with a 2-1 victory in the 2008 Georgian Cup decider.

Headed opener
Zestafoni created the first chance of the game on three minutes but Vieira shot over the bar from five metres, and Georgi Khidesheli headed wide for ten minutes later for Temur Makharadze's side. The pressure continued after half-time, until Roin Oniani finally opened the scoring with a header from a free-kick after 57 minutes.

Not enough
Vieira then set up Zestafoni's second five minutes later, as his headed flick-on was met with a splendid back-heeled finish from Beka Gotsiridze, and while Ameri poured forward in an effort to save the match, a goal from substitute Dmitri Tatanashvili - who scored the winner in 2007 final - was not enough to save the day.

Georgian National Cup
Zestafoni 2:1 Ameri

FC Zestafoni had won 2:1 to FC Ameri Tbilisi and became the winner of David Kipiani Georgian National Cup "Kazbegi” at Boris Paichadze National Stadium on 16th of May, 2008.

This is the first successful final for FC Zestafoni out of 4 try. FC Zestafoni had lost in the final against FC Locomotiv Tbilisi in 2005; after they were defeated in the final by FC Ameri Tbilisi in 2006 and 2007.

The score was opened on 57th minute with the header of Roin Oniani, the Captain of FC Zestafoni. Beqa Gotsiridze doubled the score 2:0 on 62nd minute

The header scored by Dimitri Tatanashvili on 88th minute was the only goal for FC Ameri Tbilisi. We should underline the fact that the goal scored by Tatanashvili in the final last year appeared to be the only and winning goal of the Match.

FC Zestafoni is the seventh club winning Georgian National Cup. FC Guria Lanchkhuti; FC Dinamo Tbilisi; FC Dinamo Batumi; FC Torpedo Kutaisi; FC Locomotiv Tbilisi and FC Ameri Tbilisi were the previous winners.

We should underline the fact that FC Zestafoni is the first Club who erected the New Cup of the Tournament.

Finally Zestafoni wins it!

It took Fc Zestafoni four tries to win the Georgian Cup, but now they can finally take it to western Georgia!
Zestafoni were the better team in yesterday`s final match on Boris Paichadze National Stadium, which was attended by 25 000 people, form which almost 15 000 were fans from Zestafoni (almost half of the city`s population). Zestafoni could have taken the lead in the first half, but Ameri were lucky and went into half-time with a goalless draw in a pretty uninteresting match so far.
This changed radically in the first half, when the match became more open, as both teams tried to avoid extra time or even a penalty shoot-out. But Zestafoni remained the better side and scored two goals between the 57th and 62nd minute, one by Roin Oniani, and the other by young Georgia international forward Beka Gotsiridze.
In the final 20 minutes of the match Ameri pressed Zestafoni into their own half, but only managed a conolation goal by Dimitri Tatanashvili. This was not enough obviously, so the evening ended with Zestafoni fans singing "We Are The Champions" and partying on the streets.
